On August 26, 2026, flash floods and landslides occurred along the border between Nepal and Tibet. Following the disaster, we have also been praying for the safety and well-being of everyone affected. The floods have caused many families to lose their homes, loved ones, and possessions, leaving many people facing tremendous hardship. Witnessing all that people have endured, our hearts remain deeply concerned for them.
At this difficult time, we would like to tell everyone that you are not alone. Many people are keeping you in mind, and many are praying and offering their blessings for you, hoping that you will be able to pass safely through this disaster. During this period, it is natural for your hearts to be filled with uncertainty, anxiety, and fear.
Through the serenity of “One-minute Meditation,” we wish to offer our blessings to all those affected by the floods. Within this moment of serenity, may we give rise to a heart of compassion and blessing. When the mind becomes quiet and settled, strength gradually arises within us. Although disasters may take many things away, as long as our lives and hope remain, and as long as we continue to care for and support one another, we can find the strength to rise again, step by step, and rebuild our lives.
When our external environment has been devastated, it becomes even more important to care for our own minds. When the mind is stable and at peace, we gain strength; when we do not lose hope, we can begin anew. Nepal is the homeland of the Buddha, a land filled with blessings. May everyone, especially in times of difficulty, care for and support one another even more deeply. The strength of one person may be limited, but when our hearts are connected, we can generate tremendous strength together.
We also hope that everyone will recite the Six-syllable Mantra of Guan Yin (Avalokiteshvara). Guan Yin embodies compassion. When we encounter suffering, fear, and hardship, may we recall the compassionate aspirations and blessings of Guan Yin, allowing the power of compassion to arise within our own minds as well.
May the blessings generated through our recitation be offered to all those affected by the floods:
May those who are suffering find consolation.
May those who are afraid find peace of mind.
May those who are injured recover soon.
May those who have lost family members receive assistance and be able to rebuild their lives.
May those who have departed from this world in this disaster be freed from suffering and attain peace and happiness.
May this disaster come to an end soon.
May every family be safe and at peace.
May Nepal be safe and at peace.
When our minds are settled, we have the strength to face difficulties. When we care for one another, we have the strength to continue walking forward together. May everyone be blessed with peace and safety.
May there be peace throughout the world, and may the Earth be safe and at peace.
