Transforming Conflict through the Power of the Mind

心和平世界就和平Through extensive Chan practice spanning decades, I have realized a profound insight into the interwoven interconnectedness among beings. Life is a complex matrix of interconnectedness and mutual support necessary for thriving—a manifestation of the Avatamsaka. This cosmological paradigm is described as a vibrant garden wherein myriad lotus blossoms simultaneously bloom, with distinct beings rising from within.

The world as a “matrix of consciousness connections” consists of connections among conditions and among intentions. If every individual is willing to contribute to and fulfill each other, the world becomes an infinite extension of positive connections. Conversely, if we remain entangled in self-consciousness and deluded conceptions of self-interest, this world is experienced as a realm of suffering, conflict, and pain.

The numerous conflicts and the absence of peace in our world invariably stem from human greed and discontentment, resulting in behaviors that harm the Earth and create turmoil. However, the responsibility of religion lies in transforming conflict, allowing compassion and virtuous intentions to become favorable conditions for each other’s existence.

Warfare and peace are both projections and functions of the mind. When our minds are tranquil and harmonious, peace will unfold. Religion serves as a spiritual anchoring force for resolving conflict.
