- Part of "The Spiritual Ecology" Series, authored by Master Hsin Tao
The development of human civilization has always centered around man for a core. But when people become attached to greed, anger, and ignorance, allowing profit the top priority in every field, placing high efficiency and intensive development over environmental concerns, allowing manipulation and unfair trade that depletes global resources. Bit by bit and over time, such encroaching corrupts the cycle of ecology, and Nature strikes back, and mankind is cornered. Man occupies a critical position when ecology edges toward the tipping point and the severity of the matter of our very survival is breathing heavily down our spine already.
If the world remains humankind-centric, man will inevitably do as pleased and that is not right. Instead of allowing man the stage center spot, giving it to the world of sentient beings makes an appropriate and necessary change. We are then fully connected to the life community. All forms of existence are born out of spirituality and they are all interconnected, interdependent, as well as inter-reliant in a diversified symbiosis. We are partners with all sentient beings and not their master, let alone a dictator with supreme command. Thus we respect the space others need to live and we cherish the value of other forms of existence to ultimately share and enjoy what ecology yields for our nourishment.
